Not exactly open mic, but some interesting jazz things going on at the Amersham Arms in New Cross these days, run by the SE Jazz Collective.
There’s more video on their YouTube channel, they’re on Twitter, and their Facebook page is here.
I’d love to find out more about the local jazz scene – with so many musicians studying in and around Greenwich there must be a lot of stuff going on. If you’re involved in jazz events in the area, do get in touch. I’m particularly interested to know if students are involved in the ‘local’ scene, or if we’ve got two separate things going on.

And can anyone join in?
This Blackheath Bugle post amused and intrigued me.

This is the kind of variety that makes the Greenwich open mic scene special (to my mind, at least). A man dressed in cape and mask playing a Madonna song on Keytar.
Spotted at the Star & Garter on Friday night, amongst some stand up comedy, folk songs, a cappella punk singing and so on and so forth.

Some events, news, etc:
1. There’s a nice review of Blackheath Folk Club on the Tired of London blog.
2. Plumstead Make Merry are looking for performers for next year’s event (22nd June 2012). Email plumsteadmakemerry [@] yahoo.co.uk to express your interest.
3. Tonight’s Deptford Rivieras gig at the Mitre is on, despite last week’s fire.
4. The Woolwich Grand Theatre got its planning permission last week. Great news to have a new arts venue in the borough – best of luck to the organisers.
5. The One World Club at Hither Green is moving to thursdays (instead of fridays) from thursday 20 Oct. They’re also trying to establish a monthly session at the Duke in Deptford.
6. Honey & Bennett’s Open Mic is at the Ladywell Tavern this Sunday.
7. If it’s Friday, it must be Fridaymic: comedy, cabaret, music, poetry, lunacy and open mic at the Star & Garter, Greenwich.
Do let me know if there’s anything else you think’s worth highlighting around the area.
Here’s the full line up of perfomers, special guests, open mic slots, etc, for the Seven Stars, down the road in Foot’s Cray: http://www.sevenstarslive.co.uk/diary
Gordon Robertson’s a regular at open mic nights around Greenwich. Here he is entertaining the tourists on mandola outside Greenwich Park gates.
